Last week, we learned that Microsoft will be releasing a major Windows 10 Fall Update with Cortana support for India, sometime this week. Along with bug fixes and performance improvements, the latest update also brings some new features to the operating system. To begin with, you can now activate Windows 10 using the product key of Windows 7, Windows 8 or Windows 8.1. The Start Menu can now have four wide tiles and a total of 2,048 tiles. Microsoft has also added a Suggested Apps section, just below the Most Used section. It recommends relevant apps to the ones that you have already installed, or the ones that you may be interested in. A new feature called find my device is also built into the OS, thus eliminating the need to having a third party locator app.
Cortana, Microsoft s personal digital assistant is now officially available in India via this major Windows 10 update. Besides new Indian voice, Cortana can now suggest movies playing nearby and book tickets via BookMyShow, can offer daily horoscope, take a selfie with a simple voice command and much more.
She can also track handwritten notes, movie tickets from emails, syncs calls and messages from Windows Phone and also offers missed calls notifications on your PC. That s not all; when you re away from home or office, Cortana can also put your computer to sleep. Unlike before, Cortana no longer needs your computer to be tied with Microsoft account to use the virtual personal assistant.
Microsoft has also added sync feature to its Edge Browser. It can sync all your Reading List and Favourites. And while you hover over one of the open tabs, you also get a small preview of what s on that webpage.
