Microsoft recently announced the Lumia 950 XL, Lumia 950 and the Lumia 550, all of which will come with Windows 10 Mobile out-of-the-box. While these smartphones are set to debut next month, owners of older Windows 8.1 running Lumia-handsets are eagerly waiting for the Windows 10 Mobile update. A new leak sheds some light on the timeline and devices that will receive the update.
Microsoft had already confirmed that the Windows 10 Mobile update rollout will start from December 2015, but according to the leaked document from Orange Poland, the update will be rolled out in two phases. As Microsoft mentioned earlier, Lumia smartphones running on Windows Phone 8.1 and 8GB of internal storage will be eligible for the update.
In the first phase, the Windows 10 Mobile update will be rolled out to Lumia 630, 635, 640, 730 and Lumia 830 starting December 14. However, the second phase of update will start a little later, from February 1 2016. It will bring Windows 10 Mobile to devices such as the Lumia 520, 532, 625, 720, 820, 920, 925, 930, 1020 and the 1320.
Sadly, there is no word about the Lumia 1520. This might be because the handset was sold in Poland as an unlocked device, thus no carrier involvement in the update. Do note, as this timeline is for smartphones that are sold by Orange in Poland, timelines for other countries and operators might change.
As of now, Microsoft hasn’t confirmed anything, but we’ll keep out readers posted as and when more details emerge. Till then, stay tuned.
