Microsoft s forthcoming Windows 10 anniversary update will bring an important change to its hardware requirements for Windows 10-based devices. According to Microsoft’s MSDN support page, the display size for Windows 10 Mobile can be as big as 9-inch. Currently, Windows 10 Mobile supports devices with displays up to 7.99 inches. Another important change is that Windows 10 PCs can now be as small as 7-inch, down from the previous requirement for an 8-inch display. The latest change will enable Microsoft to encourage OEMs to have a variety of hardware running on Windows 10 out of the box. OEMs could now deliver PC-like experience on devices as small as 7-inches whereas mobile experience on even larger displays. The change seems more likely to encourage OEMs to make more 2-in-1s and more compact laptops. Besides the larger displays, Microsoft has also updated RAM and storage requirements for the PC version of Windows 10. Now, all the devices should have at least 2GB of RAM and native storage has been changed to 16GB for the 32-bit version and 20GB for the 64-bit version. Till now, the system requirements were 1GB and 2GB of RAM, for 32-bit and 64-bit machines, respectively.
Coming to Windows 10 Mobile, system requirements such as 1GB of RAM and 8GB of native storage have remained unchanged. Microsoft has also listed auto-flash feature for Windows 10 Mobile devices.
Microsoft is likely to roll out the Windows 10 Anniversary Update on June 29. It may be recalled that Microsoft had rolled out the first Threshold of Windows 10 on the same date last year. At its BUILD conference 2016, the company already revealed quite a few features that will be coming out with the anniversary update.
According to Microsoft, the Windows 10 Anniversary Update includes improved Pen and improved Cortana to newer countries including India. Soon, you will be able to use Windows Hello with Windows apps and Microsoft Edge browser too.
