Winter Olympics 2018: Google kick starts day one with animated Doodle Snow Games

A total of 17 new doodles will be posted each day as part of the Doodle Snow Games series.

The Winter Olympics (2018) in Pyeongchang County, South Korea, kick starts today, and will run until February 25. To mark the international sporting event, Google has posted an animated Doodle Snow Games on its homepages across many parts of the world.

The animated doodle shows players from the animal kingdom participating in the winter games. Google will run a special doodle each day for the duration of the games. The animated Magpie in today’s doodle leads to athletes penguin, a dog, and a snake, as rest of the animals cheer for their players.

For the next two weeks, the Doodle Snow Games will continue, and you will see a newly animated Google doodle each morning. A total of 17 doodles stands to be unveiled each day. Today’s doodle has been designed by a team of doodlers headed by Jessica Yu.

As for the human athletes competing in the Winter Olympics 2018, it is the first time South Korea will be playing host for the gaming event which occurs once in four years with summer and winter sports competitions occuring alternatively.

The Games will witness participation from close to 2,952 global athletes, and feature a total of 102 events in 15 sports disciplines, including big air snowboarding, mass start speed skating, mixed doubles curling, and mixed team alpine skiing.
