The selfie craze is a big one, as more smartphone makers are making smartphones that are targeted at the trend. People like taking pictures of themselves and their friends, and will often go to great lengths to take the perfect picture and share it on their social media accounts. However, these great lengths can sometimes get you badly hurt, or worse, even killed. The latest report of a selfie-related accident comes from Uttar Pradesh, where a 20-year-old woman has died.

The woman was attending a local fair in Ballia, Uttar Pradesh, and was riding a Ferris wheel. While attempting to take a selfie on the ride, she reportedly lost her balance fell off the Ferris wheel from a height, according to a report by PTI. The woman was rushed to hospital and given treatment for her injuries, but sadly died soon after. This follows a number of reported incidents of deaths while taking selfies, and this latest trend seems to be pushing people to do dangerous things in search of that perfect picture.

Recently, a 27-year-old Portuguese woman in Panama fell to her death while attempting to take a selfie from the balcony of the 27th floor of a building. Strong winds were reportedly to blame in that incident, but self care is obviously advised when taking any selfie.

A report in late 2016 had suggested that India accounted for the most selfie deaths in the world, which of course has a lot to do with the sheer volume of smartphone users in the country and the growth rate of the segment. In conclusion, we’d advise care while taking any pictures, and to not take pointless risks in pursuit of the perfect picture, given that the consequences can be fatal.
