Last night Apple took the wraps off its first ever smartwatch called the Apple Watch, which is the company’s first brand new product category in over four years. Apple fans have had to wait for four years since the iPad was launched in 2010 to see a new product. But while the iPhone and the iPad are considered to be Steve Jobs’ products, the new Apple Watch might be the first true Tim Cook product. Cook has been under a lot of pressure to come up with something new and revolutionary, which would help him step out of Steve Jobs’ massive shadow. The Apple Watch seems to be that product. In a chat with ABCNews’ David Muir Tim Cook revealed how they started working on the smartwatch after Jobs’ death. “You know we started working on it [Apple Watch] after his passing, but his DNA runs through all of us,” Cook said. “So the foundation he left, you can see it in all the things we’re doing today.” It is little wonder then Cook decided to call it Apple Watch, without the “i” prefixed which was made famous by Jobs. The Apple Watch will be available in three variants Apple Watch, Apple Watch Sport and Apple Watch Edition. Each variant is available in two screen sizes 1.5-inch and 1.65-inch and also comes with a myriad of customization options. It has a square design, with rounded corners and with a crown on the right size, which is used for navigation. The smartwatch not only gives you notifications from your smartphone, but also boasts sensors to keep track of your fitness tracking activities. The Apple Watch is compatible with iPhone 5 and above, and will be available early next year priced at $349 and above.
