Earlier this year, we reported about how PC sales were on a decline and the trend doesn t look like it is going to change anytime soon. According to International Data Corporation (IDC), the forecast for the remaining year isn t positive and shipments are likely to fall by around 9.7 percent this year. The drop in the forecast is due to the declining interest among people to buy a PC and instead opt for a tablet or smartphone. Emerging markets like India, which normally have pushed the shipments of PCs won t be able to sustain the interest levels and will see a drop in the number of volumes shipped. A country like China has already revised its shipments forecast this year owing to stagnant inventories, and expects a double-digit decline compared to 2012.
Though this trend is set to continue through 2014, IDC expects a small rebound in the year after that. Analysts believe that there is a small chance of single-digit growth in 2015, but the overall belief is that PCs have passed their peak and might never regain the kind of volumes seen in 2011.
