Apple has kicked off its annual WWDC 2017 developer conference at San Jose McEnergy Convention Center. Apple announced Amazon Prime Video coming to Apple TV, later this year, macOS High Sierra for Macs and announced watchOS 4 update for Apple Watch. As expected, the company has also taken the wraps off its upcoming mobile operating system, iOS 11, by announcing new features that are coming to iPhones and iPads as a part of the update. The new operating system brings bug fixes, performance improvements and a host of new features. With iOS 11, iMessage is more discoverable and comes with redesigned app drawer. Also all your messages will now be on iCloud, offering a better way to sync conversations across Apple devices. In case you delete a message from your iPhone, it also goes away from the Mac too. iMessage on iOS 11 also gets optimized device storage for smaller and faster backups on iOS and macOS. Apple Pay also gets an upgrade, allowing users in the US to make person-to-person payments. The feature is built into the iMessage app. Ad when you receive money from someone, it will go into Apple Pay Cash Card. You can use the feature to make payments to your family and friends, make purchases on Apple Pay and also transfer money to your bank. Siri also gets some updates. Apple mentioned that there are 375 million devices that support Siri. Now, Siri can also do translations, but the feature is in beta. Supported languages include English, French, Italian, Spanish, Chinese and German. Siri also gets on-device learning to spot your interests, and offers recommendations.
Around one trillion photos are taken every year using iOS devices. And to ensure 4K videos hog less storage, Apple is introducing HEVC vide encoding on iOS 11. Also, JPEG format is now getting replaced with HEIF (high efficiency image format) to capture better photos, while consuming half the size. The camera app also gets an update, which will allow you to capture photos with improved image quality, improved low-light performance, HDR and optical image stabilization. Apple iOS 11 also brings redesigned control center. It now comes with tall, single page widgets. You can also 3D Touch to get more controls. Apple Music now gets social feature allowing you to see what your friends are listening to. MusicKit for Apple Music announced too, it will give third-party apps an access to the Music.
Apple s App Store also gets a new look and feel. The app store has 500 million weekly visitors, and 180 billion apps have already been downloaded till date. Apple has also paid $70 billion to developers. With iOS 11, Apple is also reducing the app review time to under 24 hours. There is a new today tab with big color cards that you can scroll through. The new App Store also gets separate tabs for games and apps.
