Apple announced a lot of new features that will be coming with the latest iOS 12 update. iOS 12 brings in new gesture controls for Apple iPads. Now, swiping down from the right top corner will reveal the Control Center, while swiping up anywhere on the dock, will take you to the homescreen. The gestures seem to have been borrowed from the iPhone X.
Animoji can now be used for longer. Initially Animoji was only supported for 10 seconds, but with the new iOS 12 update, you can use Animoji for a good 30 seconds. Besides that, it will also be able detect a wink and track your tongue movement now.
Alongside the new notification features, iOS 12 also comes with Critical Alerts. Notifications that fall under this category will be given high priority and can also bypass the new Do Not Disturb mode on the phone. These messages will mostly be the ones sent by your doctor.
Raw Photo support
While RAW photos are already supported on iOS, the new update makes it easier to import and manage RAW photos onto your iPhones and iPads. It s also making it easier to find these photos and edit them, but that features might only be limited to the iPad Pro.
Apple already mentioned about the performance boost on iOS 12. However, it s not just limited to apps. iOS 12 in general will feature faster animations. This includes swiping up for Control center, scrolling through multiple applications or simply navigating through the interface. iOS 12 is said to offer a much smoother and seamless experience.
iOS 12 also comes with some updates that improve the portrait mode on iPhone cameras. It s said to create a virtual mask on faces, in order to distinguish the subject better from the background. This should result in some well-focused natural looking images. Apple is also releasing its Portrait Segmentation API to third-party developers, so they can use the face detection feature in their apps.
iOS 12 will also suggest you to create unique and stronger password within apps. You can then save these passwords on iCloud Keychain for easy access. Additionally, iOS 12 will also stop you from using the same password between two applications. Siri will also be able to help you remember a password, but there s not much information on that.
Apple has also added support to automatically copy OTPs you get on your smartphone, in to respective apps and fields. So, you no longer have to go back and forth between applications to confirm the password. It will be done instantly for you.
New QR code reader
iOS 12 will allow the camera to highlight the QR codes in the scene now, instead of presenting a banner for them in the app. This could look a lot like document scanning feature, found in the Notes apps.
