In addition to iOS 12, Apple today also unveiled the latest operating system for the Watch at the ongoing WWDC 2018. With watchOS 5, Apple has introduced a better way to communicate with your Watch buddies, and also improves on the fitness tracking abilities.
Old school communication
With watchOS 5, Apple is bringing back one of the simplest ways of communication between two people – walkie talkie. As the name suggests, this feature lets you send short voice notes to friends with a tap on the wrist.
Fitness tracking and challenges
Fitness is among the main focusses on Apple Watch, and watchOS 5 is no different. For one, there are new fitness tracking categories like Yoga and Hiking. The Watch also becomes smarter with the new update in the way it automatically detects when you start and end an activity. For those who enjoy running, watchOS 5 brings in improved tracking of your pace, and other aspects.
Fitness challenges is the current buzz word in India, and watchOS 5 is encouraging you to challenge your friends to different fitness activities for up to seven days at a time. Unsurprisingly, Apple is also improving the way the Watch interacts with gym equipments.
The Siri watchface is being improved, and it now offers much more in terms of information. It will also support Shortcuts that has been introduced with iOS 12. Perhaps what’s most interesting is how you interact with Apple’s digital assistant. Instead of always having to say ‘Hey Siri’, you can now just raise your wrist and start talking to it.
Notifications on the Watch are being improved with more interactive options. Users will also be able to see certain webpages directly on the Watch itself. These webpages will be optimized for the Watch’s small face and touch interactions.
