It’s no secret that a Xiaomi-backed company is gearing up to launch a new high-end gaming smartphone. The device will be unveiled at an event in Beijing on April 13. In the run up to the event, the company has put out a teaser showing off the upcoming smartphone’s design.
The teaser, not surprisingly, highlights the smartphone’s gaming capabilities. The teaser on Weibo (spotted by Playfuldroid) shows a fencer holding up his saber, and part of the blade forms an edge of the upcoming smartphone. The teaser hints at a curvy design with rounded corners, which does look better than the blocky design of the Razer Phone. Also visible is a power button on the right edge. The caption on the teaser translates to “Born to compete”.
Not a lot is known about the Black Shark smartphone. But it was recently spotted on AnTuTu benchmarks, which hinted at a few specifications. These included a full HD+ (2160×1080 pixels) display with 18:9 aspect ratio, Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC, up to 8GB of RAM, and 32GB of internal storage.
The upcoming smartphone is also expected to run Android Oreo out-of-the-box. The smartphone scored 270,680 in the benchmark tests, which is impressive when you compare it to the Samsung Galaxy S9+’s 265,267 score.

It remains to be seen what gamer-specific features could come with the smartphone. But one can expect the display to support HDR, and 120Hz refresh rate that will allow for a smoother gaming experience. We will surely know more on April 13, so stay tuned.
