Xiaomi is hosting a launch event in Beijing on April 13, where we will see the launch of a gaming-centric smartphone. Black Shark is a company owned by Xiaomi, and it is expected to launch a smartphone that will rival the Razer Phone. Ahead of the event, we may have got our first glimpse at what the upcoming device will look like.
An alleged live photo of the Black Shark gaming smartphone has surfaced on Weibo (spotted by Droidholic). The device is seen encased in what looks like a rather sturdy case. While not seen in the photo, the form factor of the case seems to hint at some gaming controls up front.
Under the case you can see the presence of a dual-camera setup, and an accompanying LED flash. There is also a green-colored ‘S’ logo on the back panel, which is the same as what was spotted on the teaser over the weekend. Speaking of which, the teaser hinted at the Black Shark smartphone sporting a curved body with rounded edges.
Not a lot is known about the upcoming gaming smartphone from Black Shark. A recent benchmark listing hinted at features like Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC, up to 8GB of RAM, and 32GB of internal storage. It is expected to run Android Oreo out-of-the-box. The smartphone scored 270,680 in the benchmark tests, which is impressive when you compare it to the Samsung Galaxy S9+’s 265,267 score.

Black Shark is expected to opt for a full HD+ (2160×1080 pixels) resolution display with an 18:9 aspect ratio. Leaks also hint at a possible OLED screen, and an under-display fingerprint sensor. There could also be support for HDR, and 120Hz refresh rate to allow a smoother gaming experience.
Needless to say, we will know more on April 13 during the event in Beijing. So stay tuned.
