China celebrated Singles’ Day on November 11 which is mostly commemorated with special sales by major companies. Of the lot, Xiaomi became the top smartphone seller during the Singles’ Day sale. Xiaomi has recorded selling products worth RMB 2.46 billion (over 30 crores). With this Xiaomi continues to claim the top spot for the fifth time in a row.
Xiaomi also managed to beat its own record of surpassing RMB 1.56 billion in less than 11 hours. This was their record for Singles’ Day sales in 2014. During the 11/11 day sale, Xiaomi had a host of deals on its smartphones including the Mi MIX 2 and Mi 6, Mi A1, Mi Max 2 and the Redmi Note 4. The Mi MIX 2 smartphone was sold at $489.99 (Rs 31,600 approximately) reduced from $612.49 (Rs 35,900 approximately). Its flagship smartphone, the Mi 6 with 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage was available at $369 (Rs 28,800 approximately).
The Xiaomi Mi A1‘s price was slashed from $243.74 (Rs 15,700 approximately) to $194.99 (Rs 12,500 approximately) during the 11/11 sale day. Xiaomi’s highest selling smartphone in India, the Redmi Note 4 was also available at a discounted price tag of $136.99 (Rs 8,800 approximately). Lastly, the recently launched Redmi Note 5A 16GB model was available at $99, while the 32GB variant was offered at $136 (approximately Rs 8,900). Xiaomi’s record sales comes after its very recent achievement of being the top smartphone vendor in India the last quarter. According to a report by IDC, Xiaomi became the top smartphone vendor in Q3, 2017 with a market share of 23.5 percent. During the third quarter, three of the top five smartphones sold in India were of Xiaomi’s. Having shipped 9.2 million smartphones in the said quarter, Xiaomi tied with Samsung which also has a market share of 23.5 percent. In addition to this, Counterpoint research also stated that Xiaomi has remained the fastest growing smartphone brand in both China and India.
