Xiaomi Black Shark is the company’s first mobile gaming-centric smartphone to make a debut in April this year. While the company preps for the phone’s release in other markets, its successor has shown up. The Xiaomi Black Shark 2 quietly paid a visit at Geekbench and confirmed a few details about the chipsets and other specifications. A TENAA certification listing of Black Shark 2 revealed the phone’s specs in late September.

The Geekbench listing of Xiami Black Shark 2 states that it will carry codename “blackshark”AWM-A0. The upcoming phone will run the octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset coupled with 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM. While there is no mention of the storage size, we estimate it will carry one based on the UFS 2.1 flash storage standard. That’s quite a powerful combination to run the Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box. Considering Xiaomi‘s MIUI release cycle, we are not too optimistic about this phone getting Android 9.0 Pie at its launch.

The Black Shark 2 has logged a score of 2403 in the single-core tests and 8389 in the multi-core tests on Geekbench. The Xiaomi Black Shark 2 will have a design similar to its predecessor. And it would be safe to assume that the upcoming phone will have liquid cooling technology as well. Mostly because of the phone’s TENAA listing which hints that the successor will be a bit smaller with 160×75.26×8.7mm dimensions compared to the Black Shark phone with 161.62×75.4×9.25mm. Photos revealed that the phone would have a patterned rear along with a dedicated one-touch Shark key.

The Black Shark 2 will sport a fingerprint sensor stacked vertically below the dual cameras at the back. As per the TENAA listing, it will continue to carry the same 5.99-inch display. There’s no confirmation about the screen’s resolution as yet. Finally, Xiaomi will pack a 4,000 mAh battery which will support Quick Charge 4.0 fast charging as well.

To sum it up, the significant changes in the Black Shark 2 will come in screen resolution, cameras, and design front. Xiaomi is also expected to introduce a new gaming controller along with the smartphone. While the Black Shark 2 doesn’t have any expected release date yet, we are hoping for its launch by the end of this year. From what we gather, the phone might be exclusive to China market. The Black Shark 2 is rumored to carry a price tag of RMB 2,999, which approximately comes to Rs 32,000.
