Good Evening. It’s Happy Friday and it seems the week was really long but not as long as it was for Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg. A lot happened this week but no story had a value that matched Zuckerberg’s testimony where he confirmed his own data was compromised in Cambridge Analytica data breach. His testimony just proved how much trust tech companies have lost among Senators and House Committee members in the US.

There are two key takeaways, one where Facebook might be investigated for not disclosing details about Cambridge Analytica to FTC as part of consent decree and second, whether it will follow up on over three dozen promises made during 10 hour long testimony. There is also a looming question where US senators will go ahead with their plan to regulate tech companies. Sample Senator Kennedy’s opening statement, “I don’t want to vote to have to regulate Facebook, but by God I will. That — a lot of that depends on you.”

Now, let’s switch gears and brief you with all that happened in the world of technology today. OnePlus is just not shying away from more revealations about OnePlus 6. Xiaomi backed company launched a gaming-centric smartphone while Android OEMs have been found cheating customers. Here is all you need to know:

Android OEMs lie about security patch

Android smartphone makers have been caught lying about the security patch they promise to deliver as part of monthly update. According to German security firm Security Research Labs (SRL), there is a visible patch gap issue including on flagship models made by brands like Sony and Samsung.

The research claims that leading brands including Xiaomi and Nokia had missed between one and three patches on an average. HTC, Motorola, and LG had missed between three and four patches while TCL and ZTE were worst performers by missing over four patches that they claimed to have installed.

Xiaomi Mi 6X specifications leak

Airtel 4G users get 30GB free data

Airtel is offering 30GB free data to those who upgrade to a 4G smartphone. With the free data, Airtel is trying to lure in those who are still stuck on older 2G or 3GB networks. The free data plan will complement ‘Mera Pehla Smartphone’ initiative where users get cashback and free data benefits.

Airtel is offering 1GB data per day for a period of 30 days to its prepaid users while the postpaid subscribers will get 30GB data as a rollover option with their first billing. The announcement comes after Airtel announced Rs 249 plan and revised its Rs 349 data plan.
