Benchmarking service AnTuTu is considered one of the leading ranking systems, evaluating smartphone performance on an objective platform using its smartphone testing tools. The service has released its list of top scores for June 2018, and unsurprisingly, the Xiaomi Black Shark smartphone remains on top once again, after topping in May as well. The gaming-focused smartphone backed by Xiaomi gets a score of 2,87,759. Interestingly, every smartphone on the list with the exception of the 10th-placed ZTE Nubia Red Magic are running on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset, which is considered the best in the world currently. The Nubia phone is powered by last year’s Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC, and is the highest of the phones powered by the older chipset. Additionally, the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ come in two variants, but only the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845-powered variants have been listed on the rankings. Interestingly, Huawei and Honor’s offerings with the company’s new HiSilicon Kirin 970 chipset don’t make the top ten, once again showing the difference in performance levels between Huawei’s in-house chipset division and the much more specialized Qualcomm.
Coming in second and third place after the Xiaomi Black Shark phone are the newly launched Vivo NEX S and the OnePlus 6. Again, worth pointing out is the fact that all of the top three phones run with 8GB of RAM alongside the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC, which explains why their scores are a step higher than the rest, which come with 4GB or 6GB of RAM, and heavier UI customizations.

The scores collected are the average of all scores from those devices, as and when users run the benchmarks. Xiaomi topping the list with its Black Shark phone is not surprising, since it’s a device designed for peak performance, as is required for gaming.
