Chinese smartphone maker and electronics giant Xiaomi has gained a reputation for providing regular software updates to its vast lineup of devices including what is probably one of the longest support cycles in the Android side of things. With newer launches, the company has also evolved its beta testing program to ensure that more users can join the beta program to help the company develop the final and stable version of the software. In addition to timely updates, the company has also added a number of useful software features to its devices that are not present at the launch of the device.
The addition of such software-based features after the launch along with the usual Android security patches and operating system upgrades has helped Xiaomi maintain a stellar record in the software support department. According to a recent post by Xiaomi on its official handle on Chinese micro-blogging website Weibo, the company announced that it has added a new SOS feature in the developer version of its MIUI 10. This new update is only available on six devices including the Xiaomi Mi 8, Mi MIX 2S, Mi 6, Mi 5, and Redmi Note 4X.

The post also added that the company will add the SOS feature more devices with time. For the people who may not know this feature, this allows users to make phone calls or contact the person of their choice in cases of emergency without the need to take out their phone from their pocket.
If you have any of the five devices then you can try this new feature by going in the Settings menu and then tapping on the “SOS emergency help”. One thing to note here is that Xiaomi already ships its devices with the SOS feature because of a mandate by the Government of India.
