Interestingly, the codename ‘Chiron’ is the model name of the current Mi MIX 2 as well. However, as per the GFXBench listing, the purported device features a smaller 5.6-inch screen with 16.5:9 aspect ratio, as opposed to the Mi MIX 2‘s 5.99-inch screen with 18:9 aspect ratio. As per the listing, the display on the ‘Chiron’ has a 1080×1980 pixels resolution. Again, the resolution is lower in comparison to the Mi MIX 2, which offers full HD+ resolution (2160 1080 pixels). Additionally, the ‘Chiron’ is likely to pack Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC with 6GB of RAM, and 256GB of internal storage.
As for the camera, the ‘Chiron’ is listed as featuring a 12-megapixel rear camera with 4K video recording capability. Up front, there is a 5-megapixel camera. While it is unclear if there is a dual-camera module on the smartphone, the specification is the same as the Mi MIX 2. The listing further reveals the smartphone will run on Android 7.1 Nougat with MIUI 9 possibly layered above. RELATED: Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 First Impressions: This Mi is absolutely beautiful
With the given set of specifications, we can safely assume the new device to be a variant of the Mi MIX 2 with a smaller screen, but powered by the same chipset, and having similar features. However, as there is no official word on any Mi MIX 2 variant in the works, it is difficult to ascertain as to when the device will be official or what it will be called.
