Xiaomi has sent out media invites for an event, which is set to take place on September 21. We also know that the company will launch its new Mi Air Purifier 2 at the event. According to new reports, the company will not only launch the Mi Air Purifier 2, but a new product as well. Details about the new product are scarce at the moment and looks like the company could unveil the device as a surprise announcement. Though, a post on Mi Community’s official Weibo page has dropped a hint at what the surprise device could be. As spotted by GizmoChina, the device is likely to be a new Mi Power Bank and come with a USB Type-C port. The company has put up a teaser on Weibo that shows the number “100” which is designed in a way that looks similar to different types of connectivity ports that users have been using. While the charging port is something that we have seen in all the Xiaomi power banks, one of the ports bear a resemblance to the USB Type-C interface. If the image is to be believed, the power bank is expected to come with three ports, which will be able to charge more than one device at once. If launched, the new Mi Power Bank could be one of the first portable chargers to come with USB Type-C port as well as regular micro-USB support. This also suggests the power bank will have a higher capacity. As of now, the maximum capacity that a Xiaomi Mi power bank has is 20,000mAh. This power bank is priced at Rs 1,699. It is also equipped with rapid charging feature that can charge the power bank to 11,000mAh in three hours and full charge in seven hours. The company claims that the power bank can charge the Mi 5 with 3,000mAh battery more than six times. It can also charge an Apple MacBook with USB Type-C port.
It may be recalled that Xiaomi in March this year had launched a 11,000mAh power bank with support for USB Type-C devices. Called the Mi Power Bank Pro, the power bank comes with a USB cable with a Type-A connector on one and end microUSB on the other. It also comes with a microUSB to Type-C adaptor. The launch of USB Type-C compatible power bank came shortly after the launch of the Xiaomi Mi 5, which also has the same USB support. Already, there are rumors of Xiaomi soon launching two new smartphones, Mi Note 2 and Mi 5s. These smartphones are rumored to come with USB Type-C support. This is perhaps why Xiaomi is pushing new USB Type-C compatible power banks.
