While other smartphone makers have been particularly forthcoming with news on their Android 9.0 roll-out plans – OnePlus already has it out in Open Beta form on the OnePlus 6 – Xiaomi has thus far been quiet. However, a new teaser by the Chinese smartphone maker on Instagram reveals that the company could reveal its Android 9.0 Pie roll-out plans tomorrow (September 6).

Not much has been shared in the Instagram post by the Xiaomi MIUI Global account, apart from a caption that says ‘What exciting news will we share with you tomorrow’, evidently asking users to guess what they think the announcement will be. However, the image in the post gives away what we can expect; the image has a smartphone screen with a picture of the famous Android lawn statue near the Googleplex in Mountain View, California. The current lawn statue is an image of the Android mascot with a pie next to it, indicating the name of the current version, Android 9.0 Pie.

Not much else is known for now, and our best guess is that Xiaomi will unveil its plans for rolling out Android 9.0 Pie on its smartphones. With the announcement coming from the company’s MIUI global account, it could coincide with an announcement of roll-out plans for MIUI 10 Global, the next version of Xiaomi’s popular interface for its smartphones. A list of smartphones from Xiaomi are already confirmed to be in line for MIUI 10, including the newly-launched Redmi 6 series.

Android 9.0 Pie was finally unveiled last month, although it has been available in Developer Preview mode for some time now. Naturally, the first devices to receive Android 9.0 Pie were Google’s own Pixel series, while other manufacturers such as Nokia, OnePlus and Motorola have revealed plans to bring their phones up to the latest version of Android.
