Xiaomi last week released teasers for an event tomorrow, where it is expected to unveil a drone. While details are scarce, we have a few ideas on what the upcoming drone could look like, and its capabilities as well. Bloomberg now reveals the sort of price range this drone will fall in, and how it will compete against the likes of DJI. The report cites sources claiming that Xiaomi‘s first-ever drone will be priced around 4,000 Yuan, which is approximately $610 or Rs 41,300. The report reiterates that Xiaomi’s drone is meant for professionals and will boast 4K video recording capabilities. To put this price tag into perspective, a similar DJI Phantom 3 4K drone is listed on the company’s website with a price tag of $799 or Rs 54,000 approximately. Xiaomi’s drone will be developed by FIMI Technology, and a recent teaser video gave us a glimpse at what this drone could look like. It seems to be propped up on four legs with a revolving camera in between. This camera can be manually controlled and in addition to 4K video recording capabilities, will also boast image stabilization capabilities. Previous rumors also hint at some manner of gesture controls, and a dedicated smartphone app to monitor and control the drone.
Xiaomi’s event is scheduled for tomorrow in China. Like most smart devices in Xiaomi’s ecosystem, there is no word on whether the drone will be introduced in any other markets.
A drone is another example of how Xiaomi is expanding its ecosystem far beyond smartphones. It has quite quickly built-up an ecosystem of smart devices that range from self-balancing scooters to home appliances like Mi Air Purifier 2, Mi Water Purifier, Mi Power Strip, and even a Mi Rice Cooker.
