Xiaomi appears to be stepping up its efforts in getting users onto newer smartphones. It plans to end support for some of its old devices, which include the Mi 2/2S, Mi 4i, Redmi Note 4G, Redmi 2, Redmi 2 Prime, and the Mi Note. The company has announced that these devices will receive MIUI 9 as their last stable ROM update. The update will be rolled out to these six devices starting next month.

However, to ensure the best performance of MIUI, we have to make a tough decision of suspending the update of six devices after a long-time discussion and evaluation about the release time of devices, active users, hardware performance, etc.
Xiaomi mentions that the devices will not receive any closed or public beta updates after November 17. The MIUI Global Beta ROM 7.11 will be the last beta version for these devices, with the MIUI 9 update rolling out starting December. For the users who have already flashed their device to MIUI 9 Global Beta ROM, Xiaomi will soon update you with methods to help flash MIUI 9 Global Stable ROM.
MIUI 9 comes with a bunch of new features including a split-screen mode, and dynamic resource allocation feature. The most frequently used apps will be given priority. MIUI 9 can differentiate images based on keywords like location, expression, events and more. MIUI 9 also comes with a smart assistant to make things easier for you. It also comes with a smart app launcher that can launch an app based on on-screen contents.
