Xiaomi has made it amply clear that it intends to move away from being just a mobile manufacturer and in that pursuit it has launched several consumer goods including water purifiers, air purifiers, smart TVs, network routers, smart rice cooker, and much more. Now, the company has taken the wraps off a new electric scooter, which features an easy-to-carry design. Dubbed Xiaomi Mi electric scooter, it is a foldable electric bike that has been developed under the company s new sub-brand Mi Ecosystem. The electric scooter with its unique foldable design is currently available in China in two color choices of black and white. It has been priced at RMB 1,999 (Rs 19,500 approximately) and will start selling from December 15. The Xiaomi Mi electric scooter has been crafted out of aircraft-grade aluminum and weighs 12.5kg. Highlight of the electric scooter is that it is foldable at the press of a button. According to Xiaomi, it takes just three seconds to fold the scooter, making it easy to store or carry. In terms of design, the scooter features 1.1W high-brightness LED front light which can illuminate path about six meters away, a bright red warning light, along with four LED power indicators. The Xiaomi Mi electric scooter is capable of achieving a top speed of 25km/h. It has a DC motor with integrated die-casting molding that protects its internal structure. The maximum torque of the motor is 16N m, rated power is 250W and offers instantaneous maximum power up to 500W. The battery operated electric scooter comes with a dual-brake system. The front wheel has E-ABS anti-lock system while the rear wheel uses mechanical disc brake.
It is powered by LG 18650 280Wh lithium batteries, which offer battery life for 30km (based on 75kg load). However, riders can optimize the battery by putting the energy recovery system to work. When the scooter is in motion, a rider needs to press the brake handle or release the throttle to start the system, which turns kinetic energy into electricity and offers a better battery life. Other than being an electric scooter, the stylish-looking two-wheeler is also smart. Riders can pair the Xiaomi Mi electric scooter with its smartphone app via Bluetooth to keep a track on the cycling habits, riding speed, remaining power, as well as energy recovery system intensity. The scooter further comes with a fixed speed cruise function. The feature uses an algorithm to read the speed sensor signal sent to match the set speed so that the vehicle automatically functions in intelligent cycling mode to reduce the driver s handling of the scooter which in turn reduces fatigue.
It is unclear if Xiaomi will bring its new Mi electric scooter to India, owing to the country s vehicular norms. However, the company does try to introduce some of its other consumer goods in the country every now and then. Earlier this year, Xiaomi launched its Mi Air Purifier 2 in India. Xiaomi has launched its Mi VR Play headset in India, which is priced at Rs 999. It was first launched in China in August, and is made from materials like Spandex and Lycra. The VR headset is Google Cardboard compatible, and allows a user to view 360-degree on apps like YouTube and Mi Live VR livestreams. In addition to the headset, Xiaomi also launched the Mi Live live-streaming app in India, which is now available on Google Play store for free.
