Xiaomi entered India with the Mi 3, and despite pre-conceived notions regarding Chinese companies, the smartphone did exceedingly well. The combination of low price and high-end specifications redefined the price segment it was placed in, and the smartphone flew off the shelves in seconds during flash sales. The company next launched the entry-level Redmi 1S and the results were the same as well. The company now plans on launching the Redmi Note and the Mi 4 in India within the next two months.
Going forward, Strategy Analytics executive director Neil Mawston says, Xiaomi s next step is to target the international market in Asia and Europe, where it may face stronger headwinds of low brand awareness and technology-patent challenges next year.
Despite, a rough quarter, Samsung still topped the charts shipping 78.3 million handsets, followed by Apple who had one of its best quarters shipping 39.3 million handsets.
