Chinese smartphone maker and electronics giant Xiaomi is planning to launch its take on Apple’s Animoji and Samsung’s AR Emoji with its upcoming flagship, the Xiaomi Mi 8. This is possible because of the rumored advanced 3D face scanning feature that will come with the Mi 8. Xiaomi made a promotional video to tease this upcoming feature where four Animojis are singing classic MIUI ringtones on Weibo.
These animoji’s looked similar to the Animojis by Apple and AR Emoji by Samsung where the camera is likely to track the facial expressions of the user to animate to emoji. The caption of the video stated ‘A big wave of cuteness is coming’ while coming down the May 31st launch date of the event. Xiaomi has not issued any official statement about the feature and what technology the company will pack in the front camera of the Mi 8. This comes right after Xiaomi confirmed that it will be launching its Mi Band 3 along with the Mi 8 at the launch event.

As previously reported, Xiaomi Mi 8 is expected to come with Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC along with 6GB RAM and 64GB internal storage. The device is also pegged to come with a dual camera setup on the back where one of the sensors has a 20-megapixel resolution.
A unique thing about the device is that it will come with a dual-GPS module which is not something that we have seen in any of the previous smartphones launched in the market. The device is also expected to sport a 6.2-inch FHD+ display with 19:9 aspect ratio and a notch on the top. Qualcomm also confirmed that Mi 8 will come with support for Quick Charge 4.0.
