Chinese smartphone giant Xiaomi is likely to launch its upcoming flagship, the Xiaomi Mi 7 at the end of May. However, according to a report by Chinese website MyDrivers, in addition to the Mi 7, Xiaomi is also planning to launch the Mi Band 3 and a separate smartphone that will mark the company’s eighth anniversary.
The report pointed out that unlike past launch events where Xiaomi’s flagship Mi lineup of smartphones was the highlight, this time, the second smartphone will be the focus of the event. The report pointed out that the second smartphone, the eighth-anniversary edition device from Xiaomi will be the first Android-powered device to offer 3D facial recognition.

Xiaomi hasn’t revealed any information about this mystery device at the time of writing. Similar to the Mi 7, this second smartphone will also likely come with a display notch. In addition, this device will also pack a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC and may come with 8GB RAM. It was rumored that this device may be the Xiaomi Mi 7 Plus which will come with a slightly larger 6.01-inch OLED display when compared to the Mi 7.
As reported previously, Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun has already confirmed that the Mi 7 will come with a finger scanner under the display. Xiaomi has not issued any official announcement about the Mi 7, Mi 7 Plus or the Mi Band 3 at the time of writing. There are no details available yet on the possible launch date or availability.
