Xiaomi is hosting an event in China on May 31, which is expected to be a huge deal for the company. As a part of its 8th anniversary celebrations, Xiaomi is expected to unveil a bunch of products, including a new flagship smartphone. With a couple of days to the event, here’s a look at everything Xiaomi is rumored to launch at its May 31 event.
Xiaomi Mi 8
Among the highlights of the event will no doubt be Xiaomi’s flagship smartphone. The company has already confirmed that the device will be called the Mi 8, and leaks have given us a fair idea on what to expect.
As far as the design is concerned, the Mi 8 will be up-to-date with the trends. This means the front will be dominated by an edge-to-edge display with a notch at the top. The back will be quite plain with a dual-camera module on the top-left corner.
The Xiaomi Mi 8 is expected to flaunt a 6.2-inch FHD+ (2280×1080 pixels) display with 19:9 aspect ratio, and a notch at the top. Unlike recent Android devices, the notch will be quite wide since it will include a bunch of sensors. Xiaomi’s smartphone is expected boast a 3D face recognition feature similar to the Apple iPhone X.
Under the hood will be the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC paired with 6GB of RAM, and 64GB internal storage. There are also rumors about another variant with 128GB storage. The device is expected to be backed by a 3,300mAh battery with support for Quick Charge 4.0. The rest of the features are likely to include 16-megapixel selfie camera, and an under-display fingerprint sensor for biometric authentication. On the software front, the device is expected to run Android Oreo-based MIUI 10.
Speaking of software, Xiaomi will also be taking the wraps off MIUI 10 at the event. A recent leak hinted at the MIUI 10 borrowing a lot of design elements from the latest Android P. In fact leaked screenshots also showed overall color and design elements mimicking Google’s material design. Being the current trend, MIUI 10 is also expected to wholeheartedly embrace gestures.
Ahead of its official unveiling at the May 31 launch event, Xiaomi has kicked off a closed beta program for MIUI 10 in China. As per a post on Weibo, the company is accepting registrations for the closed beta program.
Xiaomi Mi Band 3
Xiaomi has confirmed that it will be launching the third-generation of its fitness band on May 31. The Mi Band 3 was first spotted on CEO Lei Jun’s wrists during the BlackShark smartphone launch event last month.
The third-gen wearable is expected to feature a full-touch 2.5D curved display with no sign of the physical button. Users will instead be able to swipe across the screen to see the progress on various activities.
Other rumored launches
There are rumors about other product launches too, but we would advise you to take it with the proverbial pinch of salt. A recent leak hinted at the launch of the Xiaomi Mi Note 5.

Other reports also state that we could see an announcement around the Mi Max 3 phablet. Xiaomi CEO Jun recently revealed that the Mi Max 3 isn’t quite ready yet, and one might have to wait till July. But that hasn’t stopped the rumor mills. Some reports claim the phablet could be unveiled at the event, but go on sale later.
