There have been ample number of stories across the internet about the upcoming Xiaomi smartphones. As Xiaomi prepares to launch its anticipated and reportedly most expensive smartphone, the Mi Note 2, in November, it also has other smartphones in the works. Among those are the Mi 6, Redmi 4 and Mi 5c. These smartphones have been quite frequent on the rumor mill and their leaks have been surfacing online for quite some time now. The latest smartphone to hit the rumor mill now is the Mi 5c, and its latest development is that it bears a codename, Meri . Ahead of the official launch, photos of this smartphone have surfaced. The device has also been spotted on benchmark listings. We cannot confirm if the Xiaomi Mi 5c does not exist at all or if the Xiaomi Meri is the codename of the device, but for now we re going ahead based on the leaked information. The leaked images of the Xiaomi Meri were spotted on Weibo by PlayfulDroid and along with revealing the looks and design of the smartphone; they revealed a few specifications as well. According to the images, Xiaomi Meri will run on Android 6.0 Marshmallow-based MIUI 8. The smartphone will come with 3GB of RAM and 64GB onboard storage. It will also offer 4G VoLTE support. According to PlayfulDroid, the Xiaomi Meri will feature a 5.1-inch display and will be powered by an octa-core processor which will be clocked at 2.2GHz.
Furthermore, the images reveal the overall design of the Xiaomi Meri smartphone.The smartphone comes in black color, sporting the home button in front, and front camera on top. On the front, it looks it has a display with 2.5D glass. The volume rocker and power button are located on the side of the smartphone. The rear cameras are located on the top left of the back along with the Xiaomi logo embedded below. As for connectivity, the images reveal that the smartphone will have USB Type-C support.
As for the benchmark listing, the Xiaomi Meri was spotted on Geekbench and AnTuTu. The Geekbench listing revealed that Xiaomi Meri comes with 3GB of RAM. The chipset yet again remains a secret, but what was revealed was that it would be an octa-core processor which was clocked at 1.4GHz which is lesser in comparison to the 2.2GHz revealed previously. On Geekbench, the Xiaomi Meri had a single-core score of 758 and a multi-core score of 3105. As mentioned earlier, one of the rumored Xiaomi smartphones, Redmi 4, outperforms the Xiaomi Meri with Geekbench single-core score of 929 and a multi-core score of 4,751.
On benchmarking site AnTuTu, the Xiaomi Meri smartphone scored a total of 63,851. In comparison to the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3, the Xiaomi Meri scores around 10,000 lesser than the former. The images on AnTuTu further hint that Xiaomi Meri will feature a 5.5-inch full HD display instead of the previously leaked 5.1-inch display.
The leaked images as spotted by AndroidPure also show a comparison AnTuTu score between Xiaomi Meri and LG V10, in which the former manages to triumph in many categories. Note that the LG V10 is a high-end smartphone currently available in Korea for 700,000 Won, which roughly translates to Rs 41,100 approximately. The categories include RAM in which the Xiaomi Meri scored 4,845 while LG V10 scored 3,948. The other categories include CPU and Data process along with UX I/O performance. The Xiaomi Meri also beats the LG V10 in AnTuTu’s both 3D Garden and 3D Marooned tests. 3D Garden checks the smartphone s game performance and 3D Marooned checks the smartphone s limiting performance. The Xiaomi Meri scored 8,998 and 11,184 in 3D Garden and 3D Marooned respectively.
Among the images revealed, the image of the back of Xiaomi Meri is akin to what was revealed initially. However, with the contradicting information, we advise that this information be taken with a grain of salt. Going back to the alleged Xiaomi Mi 5c, the rumors about its specifications are in line with the latest revelations about the Xiaomi Meri. The Mi 5c is also rumored to feature a 5.5-inch display with 2.5D curved glass. An octa-core MediaTek SoC processor clocked at 2.2GHz was expected under the hood of the smartphone. The Mi 5c was also expected to come with 3GB of RAM and 64GB onboard storage. Also similar was the OS which is Android 6.0 Marshmallow and connectivity option of 4G VoLTE support. There was also a hint on the pricing of the Mi 5c which was rumored to be around $180 and $230 which roughly translates to Rs 11,900 and Rs 15,300. The start difference however is the leaked image of the alleged Mi 5c which showed that the smartphone could sport an e-ink display on its rear end. Until further reliable information comes forward, we cannot confirm whether Xiaomi Mi 5c and Xiaomi Meri are the same or different devices.
