Less than an hour after it went on sale, Flipkart has sold out of the first lot of Xiaomi’s Mi 3 smartphones. This despite Flipkart being down mostly since the smartphone went on sale at noon today. Neither Flipkart nor Xiaomi have commented on the number of devices that were available on sale. However, Xiaomi had earlier mentioned that over 100,000 people had pre-registered to buy the Mi 3. Also Read - Best wearable gift ideas under Rs 5,000 for Father's Day 2021
In order to avoid situations where the site crashed, Xiaomi had employed a pre-registration process where interested buyers had to first register themselves and only those who did were eligible to stand a chance to buy the device. Yet, things weren’t any different from what Motorola faced when the Moto E or Moto G went on sale and the site kept crashing.
Flipkart and Xiaomi will now initiate the second round of pre-registration soon.
