Xiaomi Mi 5 likely to be unveiled in January 2015


Xiaomi today announced a $1.1 billion funding round that puts the valuation of the company at $45 billion. In the post announcing the funding round, co-founder and president Bin Lin also revealed that Xiaomi would be unveiling its next flagship device next month. Lin s post reads, In January 2015, we will be unveiling our next flagship device. While Xiaomi s Mi 5 has recently kept the rumor mills busy, Lin s post has all but confirmed the arrival of the flagship device next month. Also Read - Would you buy a Xiaomi electric vehicle? Though Lin didn t reveal an exact date, a report on GizChina claims that Xiaomi is planning on launching the Mi 5 as early as January 15. From what we have heard so far, the Mi 5 is likely to feature a 5.7-inch QHD (2560 1440 pixels) display, and will be powered by 64-bit Snapdragon 810 octa-core processor paired with Adreno 430 GPU. Additionally, it is also likely to feature a 20.7-megapixel rear camera with Sony Exmor sensor and a fingerprint scanner as well.

Additionally, the publication also reveals that the Chinese company could also unveil a couple of other devices within the next three weeks. Speculations include successors to the Redmi 1S, Redmi Note as well as the Mi Pad.

The Mi Pad 2 is rumored to have the same 7.9-inch screen, 2GB of RAM, but a chipset from Intel this time. The Redmi 1S successor is believed to feature a 4.7-inch HD display, 1.2GHz Snapdragon 410 quad-core processor paired with Adreno 306 GPU and 1GB RAM. Furthermore, it is also believed to house 8-megapixel rear camera and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera. The device is LTE-enabled and runs on Android 4.4 KitKat.

The Redmi Note successor, on the other hand, is expected to feature a 5.5-inch 1080p display and a 64-bit Snapdragon 615 octa-core processor, or MediaTek MT6595 chipset. Additionally, it is also likely to feature 2GB of RAM, 8-megapixel rear camera, dual-SIM card slots, and a 3,500mAh battery.
