Xiaomi has just announced on social networking site Weibo that it is conducting an event on July 16. The company teased it would unveil a new smartphone, raising hopes that the Mi 5 and Mi 5 Plus will finally be announced this Thursday. The Mi 5 and Mi 5 Plus have been one of the most anticipated devices of the year, with massive leaks surrounding the smartphones. Earlier rumors pointed towards a November launch, but this teaser indicates that the Mi 5 and Mi 5 Plus may be unveiled as soon as this week. According to previous leaks, the Mi 5 will come with a 5.2-inch 2K LCD display and a Snapdragon 820 chipset paired with 4GB RAM. It will come in 16/64GB variants, and integrate a fingerprint scanner in the home button.
On the camera front, it is said to sport a 16-megapixel rear camera along with a 13-megpixel front-facing camera. The Mi 5 will run on the company s new MIUI 7 (most likely based on Android 5.1 Lollipop), and pack a 3,000mAh battery which will have fast charging abilities. It will charge up to 30 percent in five minutes and up to 100 percent in 40 minutes.
Coming to the Mi5 Plus, it may feature a full metal body and a larger 5.7-inch 2K display protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 4. It will be powered by a Snapdragon 820 processor, and come with a fingerprint scanner. It is said to offer 32GB of internal storage
On the camera front, it sports a 23-megapixel rear camera and a 12-megapixel front-facing sensor. It should run on the same software as the Mi 5, and may pack a 3,500mAh battery. It also supports fast charging with the capacity to charge up the phone to 100 percent in 50 minutes.
Lastly, both the smartphones are rumored to have a bezel-less display. As far as the pricing is concerned, it is speculated that the Mi 5 price will start at 2,399 Yuan (approximately Rs 24,500) and the Mi 5 Plus could begin at 3,000 Yuan (Rs 30,700 approximately).
