During the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 launch event earlier this month, Xiaomi VP Hugo Barra revealed that the Mi 5 will be launched in India in April. While the company hasn’t revealed an exact launch date yet, Xiaomi’s President Bin Lin has hinted at the price range of the upcoming flagship smartphone. In an interview with ET, Lin said that the Xiaomi Mi 5 will be priced between Rs 20,000 and Rs 27,000. If true, this will be close to the Mi 5’s China prices. Barra recently revealed that nearly 75 percent of Xiaomi’s devices are manufactured by Foxconn in India. Lin however says that the Mi 5 won’t be manufactured in India, at least initially. Xiaomi launched three Mi 5 variants in China — 32GB and 64GB variants with a 3D glass back, and a 128GB variant with a 3D Ceramic body. The 32GB variant is priced at 1,999 Yuan (Rs 20,900 approximately), and the 64GB variant is priced at 2,299 Yuan (Rs 24,100 approximately). The 128GB variant, on the other hand, is priced at 2,699 Yuan (Rs 28,300 approximately).
Earlier this month, the Mi 5 went on sale in China, which saw nearly 17 million people register for the first flash sale. Reports say that Xiaomi sold somewhere close to four million units within minutes. Only the 32GB and 64GB variants were on sale. Xiaomi is unlikely to launch the 128GB variant in India next month.
Xiaomi Mi 5 specifications, features: The 32GB variant features a 1.8GHz Snapdragon 820 chipset paired with 3GB of RAM, while the 64GB variant features a 2.15GHz Snapdragon 820 chipset paired with 3GB of RAM. While the 128GB variant also features a 2.15GHz Snapdragon 820 chipset, it is paired with 4GB of RAM.
The rest of the specifications remain the same. The Mi 5 features a 5.15-inch 1080p display, 16-megapixel rear camera with 4K video recording capabilities, four-axis OIS technology, PDAF, and dual-tone LED flash, and a 4-megapixel selfie camera.
It also features a 3,000mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 support, fingerprint scanner embedded into the home button, and connectivity options like dual-SIM card slots, 4G LTE support, Wi-Fi, IR Blaster, USB Type-C port and NFC. On the software front, it runs on Android Marshmallow wrapped under MIUI 7.
