Apart from launching the Redmi Note 3 in India, Xiaomi also had another big announcement. Xiaomi VP Hugo Barra said that the flagship Mi 5 smartphone will be launched in India ‘in a month’. While the exact date wasn’t revealed, Barra said that the flagship smartphone is coming to India in April.
Xiaomi’s Mi 5 was unveiled at MWC 2016 last month, and it went on sale in China earlier this month. Xiaomi says that it had received a whopping 16.8 million registrations for the first flash sale. The Mi 5 has been launched in three variants — 32GB, 64GB and 128GB.
The 32GB variant with 1.8GHz Snapdragon 820 chipset, and 3GB of RAM, priced at 1,999 Yuan (Rs 20,900 approximately). The 64GB variant with 2.15GHz Snapdragon 820 chipset and 3GB of RAM is priced at 2,299 Yuan (Rs 24,100 approximately). Lastly, the 128GB variant with 4GB of RAM is priced at 2,699 Yuan (Rs 28,300 approximately). Where the 32GB and 64GB variants boast a 3D glass back cover, the 128GB variant features a 3D Ceramic body.
Xiaomi Mi 5 specifications and features: The smartphone features a 5.15-inch 1080p display, 16-megapixel rear camera with Sony IMX298 sensor, 4K video recording capabilities, four-axis OIS technology, PDAF, and dual-tone LED flash, and a 4-megapixel selfie camera with 2-micron pixels for better selfies and live beautification mode even in videos.
The Mi 5 also features a 3,000mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 support, fingerprint scanner embedded into the home button, and connectivity options like dual-SIM card slots, 4G LTE support, Wi-Fi, IR Blaster, USB Type-C port and NFC. On the software front, it runs on Android Marshmallow wrapped under MIUI 7.
