Xiaomi has had an exciting year so far, and they re not done yet. Every now and then, we come across a new Xiaomi smartphone in the making or waiting to be launched. Riding on the success of its Redmi Note 3, the Chinese smartphone maker has made its way to the third position among smartphone brands in India, but lost its top-five ranking globally to Vivo in August this year. But with its recently launched smartphones, which are the Mi 5s and the Mi 5s Plus, and the soon to be launched Mi Note 2, its sales could rise back up globally. In the meanwhile, Xiaomi still has its hands busy as new leaked images show the making of a new smartphone supposedly the Xiaomi Mi 5c. Also Read - Would you buy a Xiaomi electric vehicle? As spotted on Chinese website Annzhuo, there are four leaked photos of the purported Xiaomi Mi 5c which goes by the codename Meri . The leaked photos show the front and back of the smartphone, and also the home screen. One of the photos also show the About Phone section that reveals the key specifications of the Mi 5c. If the leaks of the alleged Mi 5c smartphone turn out to be true, then the smartphone will run on Android 6.0 Marshmallow based MIUI 8.6.9. The processor expected would be clocked at 2.2GHz paired with 3GB RAM. It will be coming with 64GB internal memory, and will also boast 4G VoLTE support.
According to PhoneArena, the Mi 5c will also feature a 5.5-inch display with 2.5D Glass. The Mi 5c is expected to be powered by an octa-core MediaTek SoC processor clocked at 2.2GHz. As for the pricing, the Mi 5c is expected to be placed between $180 to $230 which comes to roughly Rs 11,900 and Rs 15,300. As the name suggests, the Xiaomi Mi 5c could be an affordable variant of the recently launched Mi 5s. The smartphone was launched in China for 1,999 Yuan in China, which translates to roughly Rs 19,900. If compared with the available specifications, the Mi 5c shares the same specifications with the Mi 5s except for the screen size and the chipset. The Xiaomi Mi 5s comes with a 5.15-inch full HD display, and Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 quad-core processor. It remains to be seen though whether Xiaomi retains the Sense ID ultrasonic fingerprint sensor on the Mi 5c, which is among the highlights of the Mi 5s.
As we re just getting started with the rumor mill for the Xiaomi Mi 5c, another teaser has been spotted on Weibo which shows yet another Xiaomi smartphone. The teaser shows the back of the smartphone wherein the camera lens is placed vertically and below that is a display which looks like an E-Ink display. Electronic ink (E-ink) is a paper-like display technology which comes with high brightness and contrast, a wide-viewing angle and also has ultra-low power requirements. The best example of e-ink technology display is Amazon’s Kindle. If you think about smartphones, the YotaPhone comes to mind, which was launched in India a couple of years ago with a price tag of Rs 23,499.
Going back to the teaser, the Xiaomi logo can be spotted just below the camera lens and the supposed E-Ink display. Below is a caption in Chinese that translates to Long Awaited. With not a lot known at the moment, the teaser only raises more questions about what Xiaomi has in store for the smartphone. ALSO READ: Xiaomi Mi Note 2 will come with a surprise: Lei Jun
