Xiaomi may have launched the Mi 5 only a couple of months back, but it already seems to be gearing up to launch another variant of the flagship smartphone. Called Mi 5S, the smartphone is expected to be launched sometime in the second half of this year. The first few details of the smartphone have surfaced in China, hinting at a possible pressure-sensitive display, and dual-camera setup. The Xiaomi Mi 5S is likely to look similar to the Mi 5 without any major changes on the design front. While it will also retain the 5.15-inch 1080p display, it will now be pressure-sensitive, MyDrivers.com reports. The functionality is expected to be similar to what is on offer on Apple’s iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, as well as Huawei’s Mate S smartphone. The Mi 5S is expected to come with some upgrades under the hood and it could be powered by the upcoming Snapdragon 823 chipset. The processor could also be paired with 6GB of RAM. The upcoming smartphone is also expected to feature Qualcomm’s ultrasonic fingerprint sensor. The Mi 5 was long rumored to feature this scanner, but that didn’t quite happen. Here’s our detailed post on how an Ultrasonic fingerprint scanner is different from a regular scanner.
The report also claims that the upcoming Xiaomi smartphone will boast a dual camera setup at the back. An increasing number of smartphones are opting for this kind of camera setup including the recently launched LG G5. The upcoming Apple iPhone 7 Plus too is widely expected to boast a dual-camera setup.
As with such rumors, we strongly recommend you to take the above information with the proverbial pinch of salt. Xiaomi, in the meantime, is set to launch the Mi Max in India on June 30. The phablet features a 6.44-inch 1080p display, Snapdragon 650 hexa-core processor for the 32GB variant, and Snapdragon 652 processor for 64GB and 128GB variants.
