Xiaomi s upcoming Mi 6 is one of the highly anticipated flagship smartphones to launch soon. The company has already scheduled an event for April 19 in Beijing, China where it will be unveiling the smartphone. Ahead of the launch, we have come across plenty of rumors and leaks, giving us a fair idea of what to expect from the Mi 6. Now, latest rumors suggest that the smartphone could come with significant design changes while adding gesture support to the home button. After launching the Mi 5 globally, Xiaomi also launched the Mi 5s and Mi 5s Plus in China. One of the interesting features of the Mi 5s was the ultrasonic fingerprint sensor placed below the front glass. Now, according to a report on GizmoChina, the home button on Mi 6 could undergo yet another change. The report says that Xiaomi may have omitted fingerprint reading functionality on the Mi 6 s home button and have replaced it with the ability to sense gestures. However, with fingerprint sensors being an important aspect now for biometric authentication, it s hard to even think that Xiaomi will get rid of it. What it could actually mean is that the fingerprint could be embedded under the display, thus eliminating the need of having it embedded in a physical button. Recently, we have seen the Lenovo Z2 Plus and Honor 8 fingerprint scanners featuring gesture support. In case of Z2 Plus, a single tap works as back, press and hold works to exit to home screen, left and right works to switch between apps, and more.
With Honor 8, the left and right gestures are helpful in gallery app when browsing photos, whereas sliding down from top brings up notification panel. How exactly the gestures will work on the Mi 6 remains to be seen, but having the fingerprint sensor underneath the display will surely make more space for having a large screen.
