Xiaomi has sent out media invites for April 19 event in China, where it is widely expected to unveil the Mi 6 and Mi 6 Plus. The successor to last year’s Mi 5, the new smartphone is expected to come with a new chipset, more storage, better camera and improved design. We have already come across leaked photos and press renders of the Mi 6 and Mi 6 Plus. Now, ahead of the official launch, the Mi 6 Plus has been spotted again, this time revealing the front panel. Spotted on Weibo by GizmoChina, the leaked photo reveals a different design of the Mi 6 Plus, compared to the Mi 6 and it is difficult to verify its authenticity. From the leaked photo, it appears like the Mi 6 Plus could feature a higher screen-t0-body ratio, as we have seen on the Mi MIX, LG G6 and Samsung Galaxy S8. We can also see the physical home button under the display, which is likely to double up as a fingerprint sensor. Rumors suggest that it may not be an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, something that we have seen on Mi 5s.
Additionally, the leaked photo also reveals a USB Type-C port for charging and data transfer, flanked by the speaker grill on either sides. There is no word on whether it will be a stereo speaker or mono. Past rumors also suggested that Xiaomi will launch an expensive variant with a ceramic body, but more details will only pour in when Xiaomi makes the smartphones official on April 19.
Xiaomi Mi 6, Mi 6 Plus specifications and features
From what we know so far, the Mi 6 is likely to feature a 5.1-inch full-HD display, whereas the Mi 6 Plus could flaunt a slightly larger 5.7-inch QHD display. Under the hood, the smartphone is likely to be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 SoC paired with 4GB of RAM and 64GB onboard storage. However, previous rumors suggest that due to low production of Snapdragon 835 chipset, Xiaomi might go with Snapdragon 821 Soc for the Mi 6 and Mi 6 Plus, something that LG did with the G6 and HTC did with the U Ultra.
For shutterbugs, the Mi 6 could feature a 12-megapixel rear camera and a front-facing 8-megapixel camera. The ‘Plus’ variant, on the other hand, is rumored to feature dual rear camera setup comprising of two 12-megapixel sensors. For selfies and video calling, an 8-megapixel front-facing camera is likely to be in tow. While there is no word on the battery capacity of Mi 6, the Mi 6 Plus could be fuelled by a 4,500mAh battery. In the software department, both the Mi 6 and Mi 6 Plus are expected to run Android 7.1 Nougat-based OS MIUI 8 out-of-the-box. ALSO READ: Xiaomi Mi 6 to launch on April 19; here s what we know so far
