Xiaomi recently launched its flagship Mi MIX 2S with bezel-less design and updated internals in China. The smartphone brings minor improvements in terms of design but offers improvements in performance and imaging with dual rear camera system. Now, the Chinese smartphone maker is preparing to launch its next generation Mi series smartphone – Mi 7. Unfortunately, it is said to follow on the footsteps of other Chinese smartphone makers and adopt a notched display design. The realistic renders of the upcoming Mi 7 have surfaced online, which reveals the design and features coming to the smartphones. The leaked render of the smartphone reveals that the Mi 7 will feature a notch on top of the display. The notch seems to be similar to what we have seen so far on smartphones like the Oppo R15 and Vivo X21 UD in China or smartphones like the Oppo F7 and Vivo V9 in India. The overall design of the notch seems similar to that of iPhone X but it is of course smaller in dimensions which confirms it will lack 3D depth cameras for secure facial recognition. The leaked render shows that the back of the smartphone does not feature a traditional fingerprint sensor, which gives it a really clean design. There are also no signs of a fingerprint sensor embedded within a side button and it does suggest that the smartphone will include an under display fingerprint sensor. In the past, there have been reports indicating that Xiaomi planned to launch the Mi 7 at MWC 2018 but delayed it due to lack of supply of under display fingerprint sensors.
The only commercially available smartphones with under display fingerprint sensors are the Vivo X21 UD and Vivo Apex but they are only available in China. Despite the adoption of notch, the Mi 7 does not seem to feature an edge-to-edge display design like that of iPhone X but incorporates a chin that is thinner than that seen on Mi MIX 2 and Mi MIX 2S.
Xiaomi is also said to be planning wireless charging support for the Mi 7 but the render confirms that it will come with metal back and lack wireless charging. Xiaomi could also introduce variants with glass or ceramic back (like Mi MIX 2S) that supports wireless charging. The rumors so far claim that Xiaomi is planning 7.5W wireless charging support for Mi 7 similar to that of iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X.

The back panel does include that dual rear camera setup, whose placement is similar to that of the iPhone X. The vertically stacked image sensors are separated by the LED flash and Mi branding placed at the center half of the device. The volume rocker and power button is expected to be placed on the right side and it should launch in red, grey and blue color. Xiaomi has not officially confirmed the existence of Mi 7 but it is expected to arrive in a couple of months and not cannibalize the sales of Mi MIX 2S.
