Xiaomi’s next flagship smartphone is expected to be the Mi 7. While the Chinese company has yet to make an official announcement, a leaked poster may have given out a potential date of launch.
The poster leaked on Weibo (spotted by Gizmochina) claims that Xiaomi will be launching its next flagship smartphone in China on May 23. The poster features a large ‘7’ on a black background with the Mi logo at the top, and the date at the bottom. While it is clear that the poster is teasing the launch date for the Mi 7, the low-quality of the poster makes us wonder if indeed this is an authentic poster. As mentioned, Xiaomi has yet to make an official announcement or send out media invites for any launch event in the month of May.
The Xiaomi Mi 7 has been a part of the rumor mills for quite sometime now. It is expected to be Xiaomi’s second smartphone, after the Mi MIX 2s, to be powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC. As is the trend, the device is also expected to flaunt a full-screen display with a notch at the top.
Another noteworthy feature is expected to be 3D facial recognition technology. This feature is expected to be similar to what we have already seen on the iPhone X’s TrueDepth Camera. It is expected to be intelligent enough to recognize one’s face, even if they are wearing a hat or sunglasses, gone bald or have long hair, clean shaven or grown a thick beard.

Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun also recently confirmed that the Mi 7 will boast an under-display fingerprint sensor. In fact some reports claim that this feature is what is causing delays in the launch of the flagship device.
Apart from the Mi 7, Xiaomi is also widely expected to launch another variant called Mi 7 Plus at the same event. As per leaks, this device is expected to feature a 6.01-inch Full HD+ display, Snapdragon 845 SoC, 6GB of RAM, and a minimum of 64GB of storage. Rest of the rumored features include dual-camera setup (20-megapixel + 12-megapixel), 20-megapixel selfie camera, and a 3,500mAh battery with support for 7.5W wireless charging.
