Back in May, Xiaomi launched its Mi 8 series of flagship smartphones, commemorating the company s eighth anniversary. The line-up includes three devices Mi 8, Mi 8 SE, and Mi 8 Explorer Edition. So far, the smartphones have only been available in China, but it seems that s about to change soon. According to a report by GSMArena, the Mi 8 Explorer Edition was recently spotted in a listing of Singaporean Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA), hinting that Xiaomi could be planning to launch the smartphone in more countries around the world soon. Bearing model identifier M1807E8A, the listing shows the smartphone has having the marketing name Mi 8 Pro, which is what it could be called outside of China.
Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer Edition is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC, paired with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of on-board storage. However, there s no microSD expansion slot. It comes with an under-display fingerprint scanner, in addition to facial recognition made possible by a solution similar to that employed by Apple s Face ID-toting iPhone X.

Market chatter has indicated that Xiaomi may be planning to launch the Mi 8 in India soon. According to a recent report, the company had begun accepting orders for the Mi 8 from brick and mortar stores across the country. The publication cited dealers in Delhi, Rajasthan, and UP as source for this information and the offline retail of Mi 8 was said to complement online sales. This information was initially reported by 91Mobiles and was further corroborated by speaking with employees at Xiaomi s service centre, hinting at a September launch.
