Xiaomi is set to host an annual event at the end of this month in China. At this event, the company will be unveiling its flagship Mi 7 alongside an 8th anniversary edition device. If leaks are to be believed, this 8th anniversary edition device will be called the Mi 8. A new leak is now giving us the best look yet at the upcoming smartphone.
The Mi 8 is widely expected to be a rebranded version of the much-rumored Xiaomi Mi 7 Plus smartphone. Going by the renders leaked by Slashleaks, the smartphone looks quite contemporary. The front is dominated by an edge-to-edge display with a notch at the top.
The notch is quite wide as it is said to hold at least seven sensors. These include an infrared lens, front camera, proximity sensor, ambient light sensor, flood illuminator, Dot projector, microphone, and speaker. The wide variety of sensors are essential to allow the smartphone to boast an Apple iPhone X-like face recognition technology.
The back panel of the Mi 8 is quite sparse with only the dual-camera setup seen at the top-left corner. The smartphone is expected to boast a glass body to allow for wireless charging feature.

Xiaomi Mi 8 rumored specifications, features
Based on what we have come across so far, the Mi 8 is expected to be powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC paired with at least 6GB of RAM. For security the smartphone will also feature an in-display fingerprint sensor similar to what we have seen on the Vivo X21 UD. This feature will also be present on the Mi 7, and it was again spotted recently in an alleged hands-on video.
It may be too soon to say how much the Xiaomi Mi 8 will cost. But if we look at the specifications and features on offer, don’t be surprised if it ends up being priced higher than the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2s.
