We are just a couple of days away from Xiaomi’s mega event on May 31, and the leaks have gone up from a trickle to a steady flow. A new sighting on Weibo hints at yet another upcoming smartphone, dubbed Xiaomi Mi 8 SE.
You are not alone if the nomenclature immediately reminds you of the most affordable iPhone in Apple’s portfolio. In Xiaomi’s case, the Mi 8 SE is likely to be a limited-edition variant of the flagship smartphone. The smartphone was spotted on Weibo by AndroidPure. RMB 50 worth coupons are listed on Weibo, mentioning that they can be redeemed to buy a Xiaomi Mi 8 SE.
Just how the Mi 8 SE differs from the Mi 8 is anyone’s guess at the moment. Based on what we have come across so far, Xiaomi’s flagship smartphone will no doubt be the showstopper at the May 31 event. Renders and leaks have painted a picture of a device that is up-to-date with all the current industry trends.
These include full-screen display up front with a notch at the top. It is also likely to boast an under-display fingerprint sensor similar to what we see on the Vivo X21. Xiaomi’s smartphone is also said to feature a 3D face recognition feature similar to Face ID on the Apple iPhone X.

The smartphone is likely to sport a 6.2-inch FHD+ display with 19:9 aspect ratio, and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset under the hood. There will also be 6GB of RAM, and 64GB/128GB storage options.
