This year, Xiaomi debuted its first Android One device – the Mi A1. The smartphone’s launch also came with a promise of an update to the latest operating system by end of 2017. Taking a step towards fulfilling that, some owners have been invited to a private beta test of the new OS.
First reported by Telecomtalk, several updates have already gone out over the course of testing. All the usual Oreo improvements are present, like the redesigned Settings app, adaptive icons, Picture-in-Picture, and the Autofill API. The publication reports that the app load times are much quicker, and animations are more smooth. The Mi A1’s highlight is the dual rear camera setup, and there might be some improvements to the camera performance with the Oreo update as well.
Further, it is also reported that the update adds quick charging support to the smartphone. As per the report, post the update, the Mi A1 charges from zero to 100 percent in 92 minutes, as compared to the earlier two hours of charge time. However, the report says that the test was done using a OnePlus 5T charger, and not the Mi A1’s bundled charger.
As for the official rollout, Xiaomi is still promising that the update will be ready by the end of 2017, so unless it is delayed, it should be released within this week.
