In a global launch event held in New Delhi, Xiaomi launched its first Android One smartphone Mi A1. Besides boasting a dual-camera setup, the talking point of this smartphone is that it runs on stock Android Nougat. Yesterday, the smartphone went up for its first sale in India. And now, Xiaomi is rolling out the device in countries other than India. For now, the availability of the Xiaomi Mi A1 is limited to Taiwan and Hong Kong. For anyone who wishes to buy the smartphone, they can pre-book it from the company s official website. Exact timeline for sale and price in international markets have not been revealed yet. However, for an estimate, in India the Xiaomi Mi A1 was launched at Rs 14,999. It is available in black and gold color variants, and can be purchased either on Flipkart, or offline through Mi Store, and a few other retailers. To recall, Xiaomi Mi A1 is essentially a rebranded Mi 5X, which was launched in China in July this year. While the overall design and specification remain the same, the OS is the big difference.
Another highlight of the Xiaomi Mi A1 is the dual-camera setup at the back, which also made the smartphone the first of Xiaomi s in India to come with a dual-camera assembly. This setup is a combination of a 12-megapixel wide-angle lens, and a 12-megapixel telephoto lens with 2x optical zoom support. Similar to the OnePlus 5 and the Apple iPhone 7 Plus, it also features a dedicated portrait mode, which allows a user to click photos with DSLR-like bokeh effect. In terms of specifications, the Xiaomi Mi A1 features a 5.5-inch full HD (1080p) display, protected by 2.5D curved Gorilla Glass. Under the hood is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 octa-core SoC paired with Adreno 506 GPU, and 4GB of RAM. There is 64GB of storage on offer, which can be further expanded using a microSD card.
Other features include a fingerprint sensor at the back, 3,080mAh battery, and connectivity options like dual-SIM card slots (hybrid setup), 4G VoLTE support, 3.5mm audio jack, and a USB Type-C port. The smartphone also offers high-quality audio backed by DHS Audio Calibration Algorithm, and a standalone audio amplifier on board.
