Xiaomi launched its first dual camera smartphone in India today. One of the USPs of the smartphone is the stock Android experience. The smartphone will be available for Rs 14,999 via offline and online channels across India. Xiaomi also announced its partnership with Google at the event today. The Mi A1 runs on Android One OS based on Android Nougat. The company also announced that it will roll out the latest Android 8.0 Oreo update for its smartphones by the end of this year. Jon Gold, Global Director of Android Partner Programs revealed that the smartphone will get Android 8.0 Oreo update by the year end. He, however, didn t provide an exact timeframe for the rollout. The new update will bring a host of new features to the smartphone. Some of the features include Picture-in-Picture mode, Notification Dots, Android Instant Apps, Google Play Protect, among others.
Apart from these features, Android Oreo also promises to minimize background activity in the apps, better connectivity, and a longer battery life. The update will also save some efforts as it will come with auto-fill feature, which means that with your permission, the new Android iteration will remember your logins details, and punch them when singing in to your favorite apps. Android O also comes with Wi-Fi Aware, a feature that will allow nearby devices to communicate through Wi-Fi without an internet access.
The Xiaomi Mi A1 is made of a full-metal body with rounded edges. Another major highlight of the phone is its dual-rear camera on board. Talking about the camera resolution, the smartphone sports a 12-megapixel wide-angle lens, and a 12-megapixel telephoto lens with 2x optical zoom support. In terms of specifications, the smartphone features a 5.5-inch Full-HD (1080×1920 pixels) resolution display with 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass. Under the hood, there is a mid-range octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 SoC, clubbed with 4GB RAM and Adreno 506 GPU. The chipset is the same which powers the Redmi Note 4 smartphone. Apart from that, it also comes with 64GB inbuilt storage, which can be expanded using a microSD card.
In terms of connectivity, the smartphone supports 4G, dual-band Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Direct, Wi-Fi Display, hybrid SIM card slot, 3.5mm headphone jack, GPS, and Bluetooth. The smartphone will go on sale starting September 12 via online channels like Flipkart and Mi.com and Mi Homes.
