As expected, Xiaomi has today launched its second Android One smartphone in India. The Xiaomi Mi A2 has arrived in India after a global launch in Spain last month. Prices for the new smartphone start from Rs 16,999, and it is set to be available from August 16.
Xiaomi Mi A2 prices, availability
There are two variants of the Xiaomi Mi A2, which have been announced today. The base model with 64GB+4GB RAM is priced at Rs 16,999. There is also a top-end model with 128GB+6GB RAM, but the company has only said that it is coming soon.
In line with the leaks, the Mi A2 will be exclusively available via Amazon India besides Xiaomi’s mi.com online store, and Mi Home offline stores. The sale kicks off from August 16, but pre-orders on mi.com and Amazon India start tomorrow. Buyers will be entitled to Rs 2,200 cashback from Reliance Jio, as well as 4.5TB worth of free data.
Xiaomi Mi A2 features, specifications
On the design front too, the Mi A2 gets an upgrade over last year’s Mi A1. The front is covered with glass, while the back is an aluminum body. In line with the current trends, the device adopts a tall display with very slim bezels on the sides.
As far as specifications go, the Xiaomi Mi A2 flaunts a 5.99-inch display with FHD+ resolution, and 18:9 aspect ratio. Under the hood is a capable Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 octa-core chipset. While there are different storage options to choose from, unfortunately there is no microSD card slot to expand the memory.
For photography, Xiaomi has retained the dual cameras at the back, but the setup is different. The Mi A1 featured a pair of 12-megapixel sensors at the back, the Mi A2 comes with a combination of 12-megapixel and 20-megapixel sensors. Up front too the 5-megapixel snapper has been replaced by a 20-megapixel snapper accompanied by a soft light LED flash.

The Mi A2 is backed by a 3,000mAh battery with Quick Charge 4.0+ support using the USB Type-C port, and for security there is a fingerprint sensor at the back. Connectivity options include dual-SIM card slots, 4G VoLTE support, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and IR Blaster. There is no 3.5mm audio jack on the device, but Xiaomi has bundled a Type-C to 3.5mm adapter.
