Xiaomi Mi A2 update introduces August 2018 Android security patch and more

This update for the Mi A2 is expected from the company as the device is part of the Android One program.

Xiaomi has just stated rolled rolling out a new system update for its recently launched Xiaomi Mi A2 in the Indian market. As part of the update, the users will receive the August 2018 Android security patch. According to the changelog of the update, this patch “improves security and fixes bugs” in the system while improving the overall stability of the system. We received the update on our Mi A2 device that Xiaomi sent us for the review of the smartphone. This update for the Mi A2 is expected from the company as the device is part of the Android One program.

For the uninitiated, the Android One program created by Google where the smartphone maker works in close proximity with the Android team in Google to ensure that the Android One devices get updates without any delay. Android One devices run unmodified Android software with minimal bloatware. Xiaomi India launched the device last week in the market at a starting price of Rs 16,999. The option to pre-order the Mi A2 is already available in Mi.com and Amazon India website. The device will go on sale on Mi.com, Amazon India, and Mi Home offline stores from August 16.

To recap, Xiaomi Mi A2 comes with a 5.99-inch display with FHD+ resolution, and 18:9 aspect ratio. The device runs on Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 SoC with an octa-core CPU and is available in two variants. The first variant comes with 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage while the second variant comes with 6GB RAM and 128GB internal storage.

The device comes with a dual camera setup on the back with a combination of 12-megapixel and 20-megapixel sensors. Xiaomi has added a 20-megapixel sensor on the front with an LED flash for selfies. The device is powered by a 3,000mAh battery with Quick Charge 4.0+ support using the USB Type-C port.

Talking about the other features, the device comes with a fingerprint sensor at the back and the company has packed 4G VoLTE enabled dual-SIM card slots, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and IR Blaster as connectivity options. Last but not the least, the device does not come with a 3.5mm audio jack and instead, the company has packed a Type-C to 3.5mm audio jack part with the smartphone.
