Xiaomi is known for its affordable smartphones in India, but in China, the company also offers a range of smart home appliances under the portfolio of Mi Ecosystem. Xiaomi has now finally launched its first smart home appliance product in India, called the Mi Air Purifier 2. The launch comes amid rising concerns over rising pollution levels across the country. This has also led to rise in demand for air purifiers in the country. According to a research, India’s air purifier market is expected to grow by 40 percent through 2020, and is expected to surpass Rs 566 crore by 2016. Xiaomi had launched its first Mi Air Purifier in China in December 2014 while the successor debuted in November 2015. After 10 months of the China launch, Xiaomi has brought the Mi Air Purifier 2 to India, priced at Rs 9,999. It will be available starting September 26 on Mi.com at 12PM, and starting October 2 at 12AM on Mi.com and Flipkart. It is 40 percent smaller with dimensions of 520x240mm, as compared to 735x260mm of the Mi Air Purifier. In simpler terms, the base of the Mi Air Purifier 2 is 10 percent smaller than an A4-size paper. The unit weighs 4.8kgs with the filter inside. The Mi Air Purifier 2 comes with a 360-degree cylindrical filter that takes air more efficiently from every direction compared to other air purifiers out there. It can quickly remove PM2.5 dust particles from unclean air conditioners, indoor plant pollen, pet hair and germs. It can even filter out unpleasant odours from your room. Xiaomi says the Mi Air Purifier 2 can circulate purified air in just about 10 minutes in 21 square meter room. The setup includes a single motor with dual mixed booster fans and a three layer filter (PET Pre-filter, EPA filter and activated carbon filter). Each filter will last up to six months depending on your usage, and each replacement filter will set you back by Rs 2,499. You can purchase it from Mi.com and replacing it is pretty simple. Xiaomi says that the Mi Air Purifier 2 offers Clean Air Delivery Rate (CADR) of 310m3/h. The company also says that it is 11 percent quieter with lowest noise level at 30db, and 58 percent more power efficient compared to its predecessor.
Smart functionality is one of the things that differentiates the Mi Air Purifier 2 from other air purifiers out there. It comes with built-in Wi-Fi that connects with your home network. Using the Mi Home App on your Android or iOS smartphone, you can remotely turn it on or off, and even control remotely. The app lets you monitor and control the home air quality, temperature sensor, humidity sensor and control the fan speed too. It can also remind you to change filters, when needed. While you can use mobile internet on your smartphone to control the device remotely, you need to make sure that the air purifier at home or anywhere is connected to the internet for this to work.
