After what seems like a long wait for many, Xiaomi has today finally launched its second-generation Mi Band wearable in China. In line with the various leaks, the Mi Band 2 now boasts an OLED display, but the company claims it will still offer up to 20 days battery life. The Mi Band 2 is priced at 149 Yuan, which is Rs 1,500 approximately. The wearable has been announced for the China market, with no word on when it could arrive in India. The basic functionality of the new Mi Band remains the same, and is still a fitness and sleep tracker. Like the Mi Band 1s, it also boasts an optical heart-rate monitor placed on the underside of the pill-shaped sensor. The Mi Band 2 also supports customizable alerts, and you can program it to give you a slight nudge if you have been sitting for a long time. The talking point however is the OLED display, which can be used to view the time, steps and heart-rate. There is also an anodized 0.5mm button at one end of the display that can be used to toggle between different modes. Under the hood, the wearable features an ADI accelerometer and an upgraded pedometer algorithm. The Mi Band 2 also supports Bluetooth 4.0 (2nd gen) for faster and more stable connections with a smartphone. Xiaomi has used military-grade materials, which the company claims help make the sensor resistant to scratches and fingerprints.
The Mi Band had an impressive battery life, and now despite featuring a display, Xiaomi says that the battery on the Mi Band 2 can last up to 20 days. The company also claims that its new wearable is also tough enough to survive the outdoors thanks to the hypoallergic silicone bands and IP67 certification that makes it resistant to water, sweat and dust.
