Among the many anticipated smartphones this year, Xiaomi s Mi MIX 2 to undoubtedly ranks high. Since its first teaser earlier this year, the bezel-less smartphone has constantly been in news. However, today s news about the Mi MIX 2 is beyond rumors. It s a confirmation from the company CEO Lei Jun that the smartphone will debut sometime in the second half of this year.
Jun shared a post on Weibo, which confirmed that the Mi MIX successor will be launched soon. A couple of months ago, Lei Jun had already confirmed that the company has collaborated with Phillipe Starck, who also designed the Mi MIX, for the upcoming Mi MIX 2. Considering that the Mi MIX was launched in November 2016, and the teased launch period is also the second half of the year, we can expect the Mi MIX 2 to launch around the same time this year.
The Xiaomi Mi MIX gained a lot of attention for its superlative design, featuring a near bezel-less display with 91.3 percent screen-to-body ratio and a ceramic body. The Mi MIX 2 though is expected to take the game to the next level with a wider display and a whopping 93 percent screen-to-body ratio. Before today s confirmation by Jun, the most recent update has been Xiaomi s partnership with AAC Technologies to deliver better earpiece sound quality. Recently, Xiaomi reportedly also entered into a licensing agreement with Via Licensing. Under the agreement, Xiaomi would use the patented technology in Via s Advanced Audio Coding (AAC) patent bouquet.
